DeepFind Hunter is created by Michael Lewellen, an independent app developer and lifelong metal-detecting hobbyist based on the Gulf Coast of Florida. What started as late-night beach hunts with a headlamp and a detector turned into a mission: give the metal-detecting community a modern, data-driven companion app that respects both the hobby and the land.

What DeepFind Hunter does

  • Treasure Map — an interactive map with a worldwide OpenStreetMap base, public-domain USGS terrain layers covering the United States, and Esri World Hillshade for terrain shading elsewhere. Hunt sessions record your track by GPS and keep working with no signal.
  • AI LiDAR Analysis (Beta) — a Pro research tool that examines bare-earth elevation data for terrain anomalies — old cellar holes, foundations, ditches, and more — and flags them as "possible" or "suspected" features that always require field verification. We never claim a confirmed discovery. It runs as a server-side pipeline that has to be deployed and configured before it returns anything, and until then it reports itself unavailable rather than inventing findings.
  • Hunt Coach — plain-English guidance on signals, detector settings, location strategy, and timing, drawn from a built-in guidance library plus your own logged finds. It runs on your device, so it works with no signal, and it is a knowledgeable checklist rather than an open-ended AI assistant.
  • Find Log — a personal, photo-backed record of everything you've dug, synced securely across your devices. Value figures are your own estimates, never appraisals by us.
  • Community — a feed to share finds, swap tips, and connect with other detectorists, with report and block controls.

Marketplace is Coming Soon — not included in the current Android beta.

Our approach to data

Our map layers are built primarily on the USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) — public-domain, taxpayer-funded LiDAR data — with full attribution shown in-app and on our Data Sources page. We believe in being transparent about where our data comes from and honest about what our AI can and can't tell you.

Where the app actually stands

DeepFind Hunter is in closed beta. There is no public App Store or Google Play listing yet, a distributable beta build has not been handed to testers, and we are not publishing a launch date we cannot stand behind. Features included in the current Android beta carry a Live or Beta label. Beta means the feature is present but still waiting on something real, such as a configured provider or validation on real devices in the field. Features hidden from the current Android beta are marked Coming Soon. Where a current feature cannot produce a result yet, the app says so instead of guessing, and so does this website. If you find a claim here that is not true, tell us and we will correct it.

Responsible detecting

Metal detecting is a hobby built on respect — for private property, for public land regulations, and for historic and cultural sites. DeepFind Hunter is a tool to help you hunt smarter, not a substitute for permission, permits, or common sense. Always get landowner consent and follow local laws.
